COMMITTEES
Under the leadership of each Board Member, we are building committees that can positively impact our profession. Committee Chairs will host a monthly meeting and solicit support for various efforts via email.
All members are encouraged to volunteer; efforts are voluntary, and not anticipated to be overly time consuming (he more who join, the lighter the lift.) You may sign up for more than one committee, should you're availability allow. As we are an official organization, you may add your EMEAA membership and volunteer efforts to your resume.
Below are brief descriptions; the committees may grow in scope with member ideas and contributions. To volunteer, or ask more questions, email the Chair listed for each respective committee.
MENTORSHIP
Chair: Mary Hudak, Membership@em-eaa.org
This committee will develop a mentorship program that may include mentors and mentees both within and outside of the association. The purpose will be to align seasoned experts with up and coming professionals to guide them in their journey. This could include a job board/promotion for job seekers where members can submit open jobs, and other members can search and apply. There may be both formal and informal aspects in how you collectively develop this.
COMMUNICATIONS
Communications/Social Media/Writers/Editors/Advocacy
Chair: Jenna Palfrey, Communications@em-eaa.org
This committee may lead to subcommittees, based on the volume of work alone. Some of the roles of this committee will include identifying and maintaining social media platforms, website management, communication tool management, news releases, statements, editing, speaker’s bureau, promoting the agency, and developing short and long-term communication strategies.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Special Events/Conferences
Chair: Ashley Montgomery, Chiefofstaff@em-eaa.org
Our plan is to host one full hybrid (physical/virtual) conference per year. In addition, we look to establish a regular drumbeat of guest speakers for professional webinars. Further roles of this committee could include researching other conferences and events where EMEAA should be represented.
TRAINING
Chair: Ian Hay, Training@em-eaa.org
While we already have posted several training tools and links across the External Affairs spectrum, on the membership portal, this is just a beginning. Our goal is to build the most robust emergency management risk and crisis communicator’s training in the world. In time, this will include full exercises.
AWARDS
Chair: Jes Hubbard, Secretary@em-eaa.org
The people in our industry deserve greater recognition for the work we do. This committee is a blank slate and will work together to determine the categories, names, and forms of recognition. The committee may consider internal and external awards and might start small and evolve over time.
FINANCE
Finance/Grants/Scholarships
Chair: Darryl Madden at Finance@em-eaa.org
This committee begins with transparency and fiscal responsibility. In addition, committee members will form prioritized recommendations to the board. Beyond that, our non-profit is eligible for a plethora of grants. Any member who successfully secures a grant will be recognized through our social and traditional media channels and will make a lasting meaningful footprint on our association. Our goals here include developing scholarships. The committee will have the opportunity to shape how that program will work.
INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
Chair: Bob Jensen, President@em-eaa.org
This committee will explore opportunities to share training, exercises, and real-world lessons learned between countries. The committee may also identify opportunities to develop cultural initiatives, speaking engagements, and integrating international contributions into internal webinars and external outreach programs.
HISTORICAL
Historical/Archives
Chair: Ed Conley at Historian@em-eaa.org
Eventually, we want to host the largest repository of emergency management lessons learned, after-action reports, oral histories, historical documents, and other cool stuff that can inform, educate, and inspire future decisions and priorities in our industry. Everyone wants this. Members of this committee will get to create it.
